Bryants Breakfast
There is more to Memphis than the blues and barbecue. Jimmy and Jane Bryant set out years ago to prove that point. The Bryants changed their food focus a while back and carved out a niche for themselves in the breakfast arena.
You need only to take a drive along Summer Avenue to find Bryant's. It is the place where hoards of hungry breakfast aficionados gather. You can often see them lined up around the restaurant waiting for their chance to enter and partake in the world class, award winning fare the Bryants have cooked up. The family gives much of the credit for their success to grandma Bryant, whose recipes for biscuits and other southern specialities are followed faithfully to this day.
"What could be so special about breakfast?" ask some skeptics. "Plenty," say those in the know. To begin with, everything here is fresh as can be, and the portions are huge. There is nothing processed here. A favorite at Bryant's is an item they call "The Sampler." As the title indicates it presents an enormous portion of just about every breakfast favorite known to man on one platter. Bryant's is also known for spectacular three egg omelets and a menu full of delectable, old, southern home cooked favorites.
For people who prefer smaller, more comfortable portions, they are certainly available on the menu. Often folks who develop an urge for a delightful meal and are torn between breakfast or lunch can partake in the Bryant's newest venture into the luncheon trade: plated lunches made up of traditional country favorites.
The third generation has assumed the ownership and operation of this Memphis institution. Today, both Kerrie and Phil follow in their parent's tradition. You will find them both involved in the everyday operation of this landmark restaurant. The siblings are often asked to add a supper menu to the repertoire, but both balk at the suggestion. They state that their twelve employees and themselves work hard enough as it is preparing the very labor intensive menu offerings. They do their best work in the morning and prefer to keep the status quo.
You owe it to yourself. Discover breakfast nirvana at a restaurant named as one of the top breakfast spots in the United States by Esquire magazine. To the Bryant family, that was just one of many awards they have garnered over their thirty five years in Memphis. To them, the highest honor and the one they most appreciate, is the return business and hardy endorsements they receive from their local admirers. Visitors are treated as family here, so when you visit Bryant's, be prepared for an adventure in good eating, one you will not soon forget.
